On August 18 at 2:30, we will discuss The Inheritors: An Intimate Portrait of South Africa’s Racial Reckoning by Eve Fairbanks at St. Matthew’s.

This decades-spanning portrait addresses three experiences of the “New South Africa.” Through the lives of anti-apartheid activist Dipuo, her daughter Malaika, and Christo—one of the last white men drafted to fight for the apartheid regime—award-winning journalist (and Jane’s former student) Eve Fairbanks probes what happens when people once locked into certain kinds of power relations find their status shifting. With penetrating psychological insight, intimate reporting, and bewitching prose, she tells the story of a country in the throes of a great reckoning.

Save the date: On September 15 we will discuss Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt.
